In a time of limited patience and the need for instant gratification, utilizing your Instagram Highlights is a great way to keep your information organized, make a professional first impression, and allow new viewers to learn about your business quickly.
What is a Highlight?
Think of a “Highlight” as a folder, and the information you save to the folder can be easily accessed by your followers at any time. They help to sort information so your followers, or more importantly, first-time viewers, can easily find answers to their questions and learn about your business in comprehensible, bite-sized pieces.
It’s a great way to make a professional first impression because it demonstrates you’re active on the account and value staying up-to-date on what you’re sharing.

How Do I Add To My Highlight?
Highlights consist of previously-posted Stories, which can always be viewed.
A Story is short-form content on Facebook and Instagram which only lasts for 24 hours. Once it expires, you can retrieve it from your Archive and choose to add it to a Highlight so it remains visible at all times.
Highlights will automatically be reordered. The Highlight most recently added to will move to the far left, and all others will shift to the right accordingly.
How Do I Make My Highlights Look Professional?
There are lots of different ways you can format your Highlights to appear professional and cohesive with your branding.
One size fits all: All of the pictures are the same image of your logo, so the only differentiating factor between the highlights is the title itself.

Minimalist Images: All of the pictures are minimalist symbols of the category as a visual way to differentiate the blogs, in addition to the title.

Emoji Images: All of the pictures are of a single emoji which describes the category.

Shawn Leber - Shawn Leber's Kitchen Emoji Titles: All of the pictures include the title, and the title is just an emoji. This is a way to “flip-flop” the typical way of doing it and make your page seem a bit more whimsical.

The best style and format of your highlights will depend on your individual business.
Are you more casual and fun? Are you more formal and serious? Somewhere in the middle?
It’s important to find the right format to immediately showcase the correct tone you wish to portray so your viewers and followers perceive your business accurately.
No matter what you decide, the most important thing is consistency across the display of the highlights to demonstrate capability and professionalism.
How BMS Can Help
Highlight management is included in Social Media Management plans. This means BMS will discuss the categories of highlights to create, as well as what style and format work best for your business. After the highlights are created, I will take care of making sure your content is continually saved to your highlights so they stay organized and relevant.
